Working principle of bridge viscous damper
Published:2022-10-20 16:47:26 Browse: time
The working principle of bridge viscous damper is similar to a device of hydraulic equipment. It consists of a piston head with small holes, a cylinder, a viscous damping liquid and a piston rod. Whenever our bridge is greatly impacted by the violent earthquake force, the superstructure of the bridge transmits the force generated by the earthquake to the damper, and the piston is pushed under the earthquake force. At the same time, the sliding of the piston rod causes the pressure difference of viscous damping liquid on both sides of the oil cylinder device. The damping force generated by the liquid is through the piston head with small holes, which will dissipate the structural energy and vibrate through the heavy dissipation of viscous energy, This will reduce the impact of the structure on the seismic response.

(1) After placing viscous dampers on our bridge formwork, the displacement of the end of the main beam has changed significantly, which shows that placing viscous dampers can effectively improve the anti expansion performance of the bridge structure and meet our requirements
(2) Attention should be paid to the placement of dampers: excessive differences in the stiffness of piers will lead to mutual disturbance of viscous dampers, which will reduce their anti expansion performance
(3) The effect of placing viscous dampers at different places is different. From our analysis results, in order to achieve optimal performance of viscous dampers, they should be placed at the abutment
